Solar Tube Sky Lights

Posted by admin on April 19th, 2009 at 06:04pm

A great way to reduce your electric costs is to use solar tubes in your home.  Solar tubes can be added to your home or placed in new construction.  A solar tube is different than a traditional skylight.  A solar tube is designed to collect light and reflect it into the room of your choice.  A solar tube does not need to be installed in a straight path to create light.  The tube can be angled to reach the room that you want to illuminate.

The light refracted in the tube can also be difused to create different lighting effects in your home.  So straight sunlight is not the only option.  You can work with your supplier to add different lens to create a warm or cool color effect in your home.  You can also use different lens to dim the light coming into the room.

The sun can now light your home without using electricity and still give you several options for lighting.

Firstly, I wanted to thank you for writing a piece on our product and about daylighting in general. We appreciate anything that helps educate the public on the benefits of daylight. I wanted to inform you that the term “solar tube” is not recognized by the National Fenestration Rating Council which rates and measures skylights. To ensure the accuracy of this article and future articles, I wanted to provide you with the appropriate industry accepted terms.

We suggest any of the following as a substitute for the term “solar tube:”

    • Solatube Daylighting System (if you wanted to refer to our brand name)
    • Tubular Daylighting Device (if you wanted to refer to our specific category)
    • Tubular Skylight (if you wanted to refer to the generic category)

Often times, consumers get confused between our brand, Solatube, with the term “solar tube” and we are working to clarify any misrepresentation. With that being said, I was wondering if you would be willing to make those small necessary changes to your article.

Many thanks for your consideration of this request.

I’ve used these products on a number of residential designs, in my country they are called sun pipes, they are really good for getting daylight in awkward areas.

Why does there seem to be such a controversy about what to call these things? Solatube has posted this same thing on every blog that mentions Solar tubes.

We wrote an article about this issue titled:
Solar Tubes or Skylight Tubes? What Do We Call These Things?

I am normally not the guy to submit comments on people’s sites, but for this article I simply needed to do it. I’ve been digging in your site a lot nowadays and I’m really impressed, I think you could potentially become the main voices for your niche. Not sure what your load is like in life, but if you started commiting more effort to writing here, I’d guess you would start receiving a bunch of traffic soon. With affiliate stuff, it could become a great passive income stream. Just something to think about. Good luck!
