It's Time To Create a
House Design Plan
If you are planning on building a new home
you will need a house design plan. You can create your own
using software. Start from scratch with an architect or choose
one of the thousands of stock plans found in books or on the
internet.
When you are creating your house design plan consider your
lot and its surroundings.
1. Do you have a landscape feature you would like to incorporate
in your house design plan? For instance do you have a particular
view of a pond, lake or environmental element you would like
to see from your bedroom or main living area? Do you have children
and would you like to see them playing in the backyard while
you are doing the dishes. Theses are important factors to consider
when determining the layout of your house.
2. Lot size. What kind of a lot are you building on. Does it
dictate whether your home will be narrow or wide? Will you
need to place your garage on the front, side or back of your
home? Do you have a lot that will allow for a crawl space or
basement? If it is a basement are you looking at a daylight
basement or full walk out.
3. Also consider the elements in your building environment
that you would like to disguise. Are the homes being built
around your home close together? You wouldn’t want to
waste money on big windows on a side of your home where the
only view or like coming in is your neighbors abode. Is your
home being built on a noisy street? If so you may want to incorporate
elements into your house design plan that block out noise.
4. Think about the layout of your home. Do you entertain a
lot or have large family gatherings. If so you may want wide
open spaces like great rooms instead of formal dining rooms.
Are your children small? Small children are nice to have in
bedrooms close to the master to cut back on late night walks
clear across the house.
Before searching for a house design plan run through a few
of these questions and make a checklist of the things that
are important to you. Compromise is always necessary but a
good plan will incorporate more of the elements you want for
less cost and less hassle.
